CVS Health is aiming to fill up to 25,000 open positions, including around 470 in Connecticut, during a one-day hiring fair later this week.
In a statement, CVS Health officials said they are looking to bring on full-time, part-time and temporary licensed pharmacists, trained pharmacy technicians, nurses and retail associates at CVS Pharmacy stores — part of a staffing ramp-up as the company prepares to offer COVID-19 booster shots, flu shots and first-round COVID-19 immunizations for those who have not already been vaccinated.
“Every flu season we need additional team members,” said Neela Montgomery, executive vice president of CVS Health and president of CVS Pharmacy. “But this year we’re looking for even more. With the continued presence of COVID-19 in our communities, we’re estimating a much greater need for pharmacists, trained pharmacy technicians, nurses and retail store associates. These jobs offer a rewarding opportunity to really make an impact on public health in our country.”
The nationwide recruiting event will take place Friday, but interested job-seekers can apply immediately by texting “CVS” to 25000 on their mobile phones or by visiting the company’s career website.
Like many employers, CVS Health is confronting a tightening labor market. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that staffing shortages had forced some CVS stores to close their drive-through service lanes and turn away customers seeking vaccines.
Last month, the Rhode Island-based conglomerate announced plans to increase its company-wide minimum wage to $15 an hour by July 2022. The raises are expected to cost CVS Health around $600 million over the next three years.
