CVS Health has closed 851 stores nationwide as it works toward its goal of closing 900 locations, the company said Wednesday.
During a webcast reviewing the company’s second-quarter earnings. President & CEO Karen Lynch provided the updated figure for the number of stores closed. The company originally announced in November 2021 that it would realign its retail footprint and eliminate 300 locations a year for three years.
Amy Thibault, a spokesperson for CVS Pharmacy, said via email Wednesday that store closing decisions are based on “population shifts, consumer buying patterns, a community’s store density, maintaining access to pharmacy services and future health needs to ensure we have the right kinds of stores in the right locations for consumers.”
CVS still has more than 9,000 pharmacy locations nationwide, with 175 in Connecticut, including those inside Target stores, Thibault said.
CVS has closed nine locations in Connecticut, “however there are no additional closures planned in 2024,” she said.
Thibault added the company will open a new CVS Pharmacy in Bridgeport later this year.
