A plan to turn a 10-story, 240-room Danbury hotel into a 198-unit apartment complex was approved unanimously on Wednesday by the city’s Planning Commission.

The redevelopment, at 18 Old Ridgebury Road, will be carried out by Danbury-based BRT Properties, doing business as Bright Ravens IS Danbury LLC. That limited liability company purchased the former Crowne Plaza Hotel property in November 2021 for $8 million, property records show.

The redeveloped site will have 24,451 square feet of interior space, 121,739 square feet of open space and 383 parking spaces.

It will also feature a 20,000-square-foot makerspace and 6,000-square-foot restaurant, according to an application filed with the city.

It will also have a 4,000-square-foot arcade coffee shop, art gallery, gymnasium, outdoor patios and sports courts, walkways and exterior landscaping.

Per the city’s zoning regulations, 10 apartments will be deemed affordable housing.

The development, which covers 7.24 acres, will take six months to nine months to complete over three phases.
