Danbury Hospital receives $3M gift to build cardiovascular surgical suite

A Bridgewater woman who received life-saving heart surgery at Danbury Hospital has provided the hospital a $3 million gift to transform the cardiac operating room into a multifunctional cardiovascular surgical suite.

The new clinical space is scheduled for completion in 2018 and will be named The Yoriko McClure Surgical Suite at Danbury Hospital. It will be located in the hospital’s Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Pavilion.

The new suite will combine traditional operating room functionality with the advanced imaging capabilities of a catheterization laboratory, creating a clinically optimal hybrid operating room, the hospital said. Surgeons will be able to perform minimally invasive cardiac and endovascular procedures in one surgical encounter. The facility also will have the equipment, technology and surgical staff for the most advanced cardiovascular procedures.
