Dattco-employed bus drivers who work in the Windsor school district have voted to unionize, the Teamsters announced.
Approximately 85 drivers have joined Local 671, which now plans to negotiate a contract with the New Britain-based transport provider, which employs more than 2,000 people in multiple locations across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The chapter already represents Dattco bus drivers in Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hebron and Manchester. There are approximately 1,300 Dattco drivers in total in the union, according to the Teamsters.
The Teamsters said the Windsor unit, which wasn’t previously organized, is the first to join by way of an election. Several other bus-driver units became Local 671 members when Dattco took over local busing contracts from predecessor providers, according to a Teamsters spokesman.
“We look forward to negotiating a contract that's on par with the exceptional wages and working conditions that we have gotten at all of our Teamster schoolbus yards throughout the Greater Hartford area,” said David A. Lucas, Local 671’s secretary-treasurer.
Dattco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
