A local entrepreneur has signed a franchise agreement to open four Dave’s Hot Chicken restaurants in Hartford.
The locations – which have not yet been determined – will be owned by John Coughlin and his family, who also own and operate seven Dunkin’ locations in the area.
Los Angeles-based Dave’s Hot Chicken, which started in a parking lot in 2017, now has more than 60 restaurants across the United States and Canada. The eatery specializes in chicken tenders and sliders, and is also known for its sides.
The chain’s Hartford locations are expected to open over the next two years, the company said.
“Although Dave’s Hot Chicken has experienced historic growth and success over such a short period of time, the brand is still just getting started,” said Bill Phelps, CEO of Dave’s Hot Chicken. “Working with experienced business leaders, like John Coughlin, is essential to the brand maintaining its current acceleration.”
Coughlin’s team includes his wife, daughter and two sons.
“The incredible product, cult following and corporate support made Dave’s Hot Chicken the perfect addition to my family’s portfolio,” Coughlin said.
The team is seeking 2,000- to 2,700-square-foot spaces, with or without drive-throughs. Real estate developers may contact Bob Urso at 860-268-2452 to review available space.
Dave’s Hot Chicken is growing and will open 75 new locations this year, the company said. Also, it has sold the rights to nearly 600 franchises.
The company is backed by investors including musical artist Drake, former California First Lady Maria Shriver, Red Sox owner Tom Werner, actor Samuel L. Jackson, and Good Morning America anchor and retired NFL player Michael Strahan.
Currently, it has two locations in Massachusetts, but none in Connecticut.
