Day Kimball CEO Diamond resigns to become Bridgeport Hospital president

Anne Diamond, CEO and president of Putnam-based health system Day Kimball, announced late Monday she is stepping down next month to become president of Bridgeport Hospital.

The Putnam-based health system, anchored by Day Kimball Hospital, said Diamond will be succeeded on Oct. 25 by former board chairman Joseph M. Adiletta, who will serve as interim president and CEO while its board of directors searches for her permanent replacement.

The leadership shakeup comes just a month after Day Kimball announced plans to join California-based for-profit hospital operator Prospect Medical Holdings, which owns Eastern Connecticut Health Network and Waterbury Hospital. The two hospital operators said they intend to sign an agreement sometime this fall. No financial details were disclosed, although Day Kimball says it will remain a not-for-profit hospital.

In a memo to staff on Monday, Diamond, who has more than 30 years of experience in health care, said she’s leaving Day Kimball in “good hands” ahead of its planned partnership with Prospect.

“Our successful efforts allowed us to carefully select a new partner; one that is right for you, our patients and the community,” she wrote. “Prospect Medical Holdings will ensure that Day Kimball will remain a local, community hospital, providing necessary capital to enhance services and maintain our charitable mission.”

Diamond began leading Day Kimball just over two years ago after serving as chief executive of UConn Health’s John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington for more than seven years.

In her new role, Diamond will oversee the 500-bed Bridgeport Hospital and its 100-bed Milford Hospital campus, which recently began operating under the Yale New Haven Health system.

Meantime, Adiletta is familiar with leading Day Kimball on a temporary basis, having served as the nonprofit health system’s interim president and CEO from Nov. 2016 to Aug. 2017 prior to Diamond’s appointment.

“As we continue the important work being done at Day Kimball, I am confident that the strong leadership of our board, along with the experience of our administrative team and the dedication of our entire staff, will ensure that our organization continues to move forward in a positive direction,” Adiletta said in a statement.
