Dempsey’s interim CEO gets permanent role

UConn Health’s John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington has appointed Anne Diamond as CEO.

Diamond has been interim CEO since Aug. 2013, when Dr. Mike H. Summerer resigned. She was formerly chief operating officer.

She has a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology and a law degree. She previously worked for a health system in Oregon as well as for 10 years at a California nonprofit, Electric Power Research Institute.

Her appointment comes several weeks after UConn split the responsibilities of the medical school dean and executive vice president for health affairs into two positions, with the latter focused on business functions of UConn Health.

Dr. Andrew Agwunobi, the recently appointed interim executive vice president for health affairs, called Diamond “an inspirational leader with a strong focus on quality and safety.”

Agwunobi said Diamond will lead a transition in 2016 as UConn Health’s new hospital tower opens.

Dempsey Hospital had $305 million in operating revenue in fiscal year 2013 — the most recent period for which data is available from the state — and an $11.6 million surplus.

That was up from $294.9 million and $5,000 the year before.
