With COVID-19 cases surging nationwide, Guilford-based Detect Inc. began online sales Wednesday of its PCR-quality at-home rapid test.
Detect’s single-use test went on sale at Detect.com at the cost of $49, plus $39 for the reusable Detect Hub.
According to the company, Detect’s FDA-authorized Covid-19 test is at least 50 times more sensitive than leading rapid antigen tests. Detect said its test allows for earlier detection of the virus and can recognize both the Delta and Omicron variants by bioinformatic analysis.
A mobile app guides users through the testing process, which takes about 3 minutes of hands-on time and about an hour to show results.
The company also launched an add-on telehealth service called Detect Verified that generates a CDC-compliant certified test result that can be used for travel, work or school needs. The service costs $20 and delivers certified results via email in minutes, according to Detect.
Detect co-founder and Chief Business Officer Owen Kaye-Kauderer said, “We hope that the Detect Covid-19 Test, paired with Detect Verified, will allow families to travel and gather safely this holiday season.”
The National Institutes of Health Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics Initiative recently awarded the company an $8.1 million contract to scale up manufacturing of the Detect Covid-19 Test.
Detect has raised $110 million in venture capital to scale up its COVID-19 test and develop future home tests for respiratory diseases, STIs and maternal health.
