A developer has purchased the former Bridgeport Flyer Diner property in Milford for $2.5 million to go forward with plans to build an 80-unit apartment building on-site.

Metro Star Companies LLC, controlled by Blake Smith of Milford, acquired the 0.87-acre property at 249 Bridgeport Ave., from Dennis Kokenos of Easton, who closed the diner in late February.

“We plan on building some affordable housing there,” Smith told the Hartford Business Journal.

The development will include 24 affordable housing units, he said.

Smith said the plans, which entail building two, five-story apartment buildings on the property, were approved by the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission in late January.

He said Metro Star plans to start demolishing the 4,827-square-foot diner in a couple months.

The diner, which was built in 1972, is appraised at $814,940 and assessed at $570,460, according to the city’s property records.
