Developer wants to build 44 homes in Manchester

While Connecticut’s residential real estate market has been slow to recover from the Great Recession, it’s not stopping a developer from pitching a new housing development in Manchester.

Vernon developer Kenneth Boynton, who owns Boynton Construction, wants to build 44 single-family homes on a 30-acre parcel at 426 Wetherell St. He acquired the vacant land for $549,900 in April 2018, town records show.

Manchester zoning officials plan to discuss the proposal, as well as a separate development of a 25,800-square-foot commercial building in town, during a meeting Monday.

Boynton would need an inland wetlands permit, subdivision and erosion and sedimentation plan approvals from the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission before moving forward with the project, billed as Bayberry Crossing.

Boynton’s other housing developments in the region include Manchester’s Highland Ridge, Ogden Brook Estates and Woodland Place in Vernon and Stagecoach Farms in Durham, according to his company’s website.

Another proposal under consideration Monday calls for construction of a new 25,800-square-foot commercial building at 80 Utopia Road. The applicant, listed as SL 80 Utopia Road LLC, is also looking to add 55 parking spaces there.

It’s not yet clear how the commercial building would be used.

Zoning officials have discussed both proposed developments at recent meetings, according to meeting minutes.
