A 62-year-old financial firm, The DiMatteo Group, is keeping Shelton as its home, but moved early this month to a new location, citing less need for space following the sale of its insurance practice.
DiMatteo Group Financial Services and Tax & Accounting, which have both been headquartered at 79 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton, now have a new home down the street at 1000 Bridgeport Ave.
John DiMatteo, president of DiMatteo Group Financial Services, indicated that the sale of its insurance division was a factor in the move.
“Our three divisions have been located in Shelton since 2003,” DiMatteo said in an announcement. “When DiMatteo Insurance was sold to Cross Insurance in 2019, our need for such a large office space changed, in large part due to the pandemic.”
The firm’s remaining divisions — financial services, and tax and accounting — moved to adjacent suites on the fifth floor at 1000 Bridgeport Ave.
The company referred to the move as a “right-size” following the sale of its insurance division to Cross Insurance, which is on Corporate Drive in Shelton.
Rosemarie Esposito, an officer of DiMatteo Group Tax & Accounting, co-owns this business division with her sister, Loretta Lesko.
“We are happy to continue serving our clients at another convenient location in Shelton,” Esposito said.
Anthony DiMatteo of Shelton founded the company back in 1960 in Bridgeport, and it was originally called DiMatteo Insurance.
By 1970, Anthony’s wife, Adeline “Lena” joined him at the company, and it got a new moniker — A.A. DiMatteo Insurance Service Center. The two A’s in the name stood for Anthony and Adeline. In 1993, the couple, who have since passed away, turned over responsibility for daily business operations to their four children and two of their spouses. Today, three generations have been involved in the business.
It provides a variety of financial services, such as accounting, tax assistance and retirement and college planning.
