DIRECTOR AWARDED BUSINESS HONOR KEEFE EARNS PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD LATICRETE APPOINTS MERKEL TO BOARD CONNSTEP EARNS EXCELLENCE HONOR WEST HAVEN CHAMBER HONORS MESSORE HUGHES HEALTH’S FINKELSTEIN AWARDED CRIS RADIO VOLUNTEERS FETED

David Director, president of Connecticut Lighting Centers Inc. since 1984, was recently awarded a Medallion for Entrepreneurship from Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society. The medallion is awarded to individuals who combine innovative business with service to humanity.

Grady Keefe, one of Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s constituent liaisons, recently won this year’s Congressman John Joseph Moakley Award for Exemplary Public Service. The award is presented annually during Public Service Recognition Week to recognize the outstanding accomplishments and achievements of a staff member of the New England Congressional delegation in the name of longtime Massachusetts Congressman Joe Moakley.

LATICRETE, a global manufacturer of installation and finishing systems for the building industry, has appointed Stephen T. Merkel of West Hartford to its board of directors. Merkel is a senior executive with 18 years of international and domestic responsibilities. He has served on the NYSE, private and not-for-profit boards, and currently advises a number of privately held businesses.

CONNSTEP was awarded a “Mark of Excellence” award for initiatives supporting Connecticut Manufacturing at the recent Manufacturing Extension Partnership Manufacturing Innovation 2012 Conference. The award recognizes the efforts of a partnership member center that goes above and beyond its peer’s expectations to develop and implement an outstanding initiative that supports its regional manufacturing community, the national manufacturing industry and the MEP system as a whole. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy nominated CONNSTEP for the award.

Fred A. Messore, vice president at Colonial Properties in Orange, was recently named the 2012 Businessperson of the Year by the West Haven Chamber of Commerce. Messore previously served as executive director of the West Haven Economic Development Corp. where he spearheaded the $110,000,000 regional train station which is under construction.

The American College of Health Care Administrators recently named Mark Finkelstein, vice president and administrator of Hughes Health & Rehabilitation in West Hartford, the 2012 recipient of the ACHCA Distinguished Nursing Home Administrator Award. The award recognizes a fellow of ACHCA who has demonstrated the highest professional standards as an administrator in long-term care. Finkelstein is a director of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities.

More than 100 CRIS Radio volunteers recently attended a volunteer reception at the Governor’s Mansion where they were honored for their long-standing service. More than 65 volunteers were recognized for marking special anniversaries with CRIS, including Joanne Nesti, former NBC Connecticut news anchor, who was honored for her 30 years of service to CRIS. Three volunteers, Robert McAllister, Laura Nadeau and Stephen Thal, were recognized for serving CRIS for 20 years. CRIS converts printed text into audio recordings for people who have visual, physical, learning, intellectual, cultural or emotional disabilities.
