The city’s second inaugural open-streets event, DominGO! Hartford, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 along Park Street and Prospect Avenue, down to Main Street.

The event was rescheduled from July due to extreme heat.

DominGO! Hartford will transform 2 miles of streets into car-free public spaces open for biking, walking, running and exercising, as well as visiting local businesses and eating at restaurants. There will be multiple activity hubs along the route meant for all ages and abilities.

“The DominGO! open streets initiative is an experiment in reclaiming public space for a different use, bringing the community together to experience their city and our major avenues in a new way," Mayor Luke Bronin said.

The program is a partnership between the city and Hartford HealthCare.

Each DominGO! Hartford route will include three activity hubs, where guests will find water, first aid and restrooms. Activity hubs will feature games such as jump rope, basketball, soccer and live music, as well as dance classes and fitness challenges.

There will be live entertainment throughout the day, including musical acts Felix Manuel y Su Grupo, Ray Gonzalez, DJ Peter Cee, and Joe Linhart and Friends.

In addition to encouraging attendees to be active, the program aims to support local artists, nonprofit organizations and small businesses. Businesses along each route are encouraged to activate their storefronts and interact with passersby.

The next DominGO! Hartford event is scheduled for Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.domingohartford.com.
