Real-time travel information is now being provided to drivers and commuters by the state of Connecticut’s new website, www.CTTravelSmart.org.

The idea behind the website and service is to help inform travelers about road conditions and help reduce travel times and congestion, particularly during rush-hour traffic, said state Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker.

The website, which can be accessed by computer or mobile devices, consolidates state DOT data into a customizable service that can be used for trip planning, Redeker said.

For instance, one feature allows travelers to personalize the application to show cameras and routes that are most relevant to them. Registered users also can receive traffic condition alerts via text or email on routes they select.

A bus transit feature also is now under development.
