Officials at Foxwoods Resort Casino marked the official grand opening of the DraftKings sportsbook at the casino on Wednesday, another milestone as the state’s three licensed gambling operators branch out into retail sports betting and online gaming.

The two-story, 12,000-square-foot space, set up inside Foxwoods’ Grand Cedar Casino, had a “soft opening” in November, when it replaced a temporary sportsbook that premiered in late September. Wednesday’s event was the official opening ceremony, with Foxwoods CEO Jason Guyot, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Chairman Rodney Butler and Boston Celtics player-turned-sports analyst Kendrick Perkins on hand to celebrate.

The sportsbook’s layout includes wall-to-wall televisions, multiple VIP rooms, two full bars and a restaurant. Visitors can place their bets at windows and kiosks located throughout the space.

Guyot told WTNH that, since the soft opening on Nov. 12, the sportsbook has taken in around 70,000 bets, which is in line with the company’s expectations so far.

Foxwoods partnered with DraftKings over the summer in an effort to launch now-legal sports and internet gambling options. In-person sports betting came online first, followed by online gaming, which launched last month.

Foxwoods competitor Mohegan Sun also has a sportsbook, in partnership with DraftKings rival FanDuel. Mohegan Sun renovated its Bow & Sports bar, which now boasts one of the largest television walls in the region and 50 betting kiosks.
