Duncaster, a Bloomfield-based life plan community, is planning an expansion of its Loeffler Road campus to meet anticipated growing demand for senior independent housing in Greater Hartford.
The not-for-profit agency will renovate and enlarge its dining area, wellness center and other amenities as it marks its 40th anniversary in Connecticut.
“Unlike active adult developments, assisted living facilities or nursing homes, Life Plan Communities offer an independent-living experience with additional senior care services available if needed,” said Kelly Papa, Duncaster president and CEO.
Duncaster expects to submit a proposal to the town of Bloomfield later this year, with the three-year construction project set to begin in 2024. The estimated cost of the project is not known.
There are roughly 300 people now living at Duncaster, and the expansion project could add as many as 90 more units to accommodate 100-150 new residents, and add about 50 new jobs, Papa said.
The facility went through a previous expansion about 10 years ago.
“We know the expanded campus will complement and enhance the quality of life for our residents,” Papa said, adding that it will create construction jobs, employment opportunities for area residents and support the additional numbers of residents who move into the new homes.
The proposed project is the latest of many expansion and improvement investments made since 1984, when Duncaster was founded in 1984 by a group of local residents.
