Duracell to relocate R&D HQ from CT to Atlanta by summer 2026

Battery-maker Duracell, which once had its global headquarters in Bethel, will relocate its remaining staff at the sprawling Berkshire Corporate Park campus to Atlanta.

The company announced Wednesday that it will move its North American research and development headquarters from the small suburb of Danbury to a technology hub near Georgia Tech.

Duracell owns the Bethel property at 14 Research Drive, which contains 322,970 square feet of office space across four floors. Of that, 142,264 square feet is available for lease, according to a real estate listing.

Duracell did not say what it plans to do with the property, or how many employees currently work there.

Duracell will no longer have a physical presence in Bethel once the move is completed, a spokesperson confirmed. However, “many employees” will continue to work at the facility until then.

“Duracell is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for its employees and will continue to support them throughout the relocation process, as we do anticipate relocating employees from our Bethel office,” the spokesperson said.

Duracell is consolidating its business in Georgia, where it has an existing manufacturing facility and distribution center.

The Atlanta research and development headquarters, set to open in summer 2026, will feature an innovation hub with state-of-the-art laboratories, modern collaborative workspaces and advanced technology to support future growth, the company said.

According to a press release from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s office, Duracell’s new headquarters involves a roughly $56 million investment from Duracell. The move will create 110 new jobs in the region, the release states.

Duracell said the decision to relocate R&D operations to Atlanta was driven by several factors.

"The vibrant technology ecosystem, access to top-tier talent and the close geographical proximity to our manufacturing facilities will strengthen our ability to innovate with speed and efficiency, and deliver superior products to our consumers and customers,” said Liben Hailu, Duracell’s chief technology officer.

Omaha, Nebraska-based conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway acquired Duracell from Procter & Gamble in 2016 and moved its executive offices to Chicago in 2017.

Duracell’s official U.S. address will remain in Chicago.
