E. Windsor gun store owner pleads guilty to violations

The owner of an East Windsor gun store that sold guns to Newtown shooter Adam Lanza’s mother pleaded guilty Thursday to violating federal firearms laws, according to Connecticut’s acting U.S. attorney and Boston-based gun regulators.

David LaGuercia, owner of Riverview Gun Sales entered guilty pleas on one count of transfer of a firearm before completion of a background check and one count of failure to maintain proper firearm records.

In an investigation of LaGuercia, the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms said it discovered 300 examples of false or missing information in his gun acquisition and disposition records. The ATF said it also discovered at least two instances in which individuals received firearms prior to receiving approval from the national instant criminal background check system. Riverview also failed to report the theft of a gun with 48 hours as well as multiple sales of handguns to the same buyers, ATF said.

The ATF revoked LaGuercia’s license in December.

The maximum penalty on each of the charges is one year in prison, five years of probation and a $100,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 14.
