East Granby has partnered with the software company Cloudpermit to move its building permit and inspection services online.
The town of 5,214 residents will begin offering a simplified building permit application process later this year. Users will be able to schedule and check the status of their building inspections online.
"We researched different software options, and it became clear that not all software can be configured to meet the needs of a small town," said the town’s building official, Mark Goderre.
Cloudpermit can be tailored to meet the needs of any town population size and offers an unlimited user license.
The software provides a QR code for each building permit, which will help staff locate documents both in the office and in the field. Goderre said he will no longer need to bring files with him to job sites.
The online software is also expected to save time for builders by eliminating the need to travel to town offices to complete applications.
Cloudpermit, based in Reston, Virginia, provides community development software for local governments, including planning and zoning, and code enforcement. The company was founded more than 10 years ago.
East Granby is the first town in Connecticut to use the software.
