Norwich-based Dime Bank is looking beyond the borders of its New London County stronghold, hoping to open two branches in Greater Hartford.
The mutual savings bank submitted applications to the state Department of Banking recently asking for permission to establish branches at 1009 Hebron Ave. in Glastonbury and 299 Middle Turnpike West in Manchester.
Both properties became available as a result of branch consolidation by People’s United Financial, following its acquisition of Farmington Bank in 2018 and United Bank last year, for a combined purchase price of approximately $1.3 billion.
The Manchester property previously housed a Farmington branch, while the Glastonbury property housed a United branch.
If approved, the two branches would be Dime’s first Connecticut locations outside of New London County, where it has 10 full-service branches. It also has one in Rhode Island.
