Submarine builder Electric Boat has purchased two commercial properties near its Groton shipyard for $3.6 million, land records show.
The properties are at 359 and 415 Thames St.
The property at 415 Thames is a 34,700-square-foot warehouse built in 2002; 359 Thames is a 12,737-square-foot vacant restaurant property.
A spokesperson for Electric Boat said the company will use the properties immediately for employee parking. The company doesn’t have longer-term plans for the properties at this time, the spokesperson said.
The seller of the properties was Deaderick SSB LLC, which lists a Miami Beach, Florida address in land records.
This marks the latest commercial property purchase for Electric Boat, which has been expanding in recent years amid federal contracts for the ongoing Virginia class program, and construction of the new, larger Columbia class, as well as overhaul work on older Los Angeles class boats.
In early January, Electric Boat paid $5.5 million for a nearly 55-acre property in North Stonington, at 45 Frontage Road, where the company plans to construct a roughly 480,000-square-foot warehouse.
