EPA gives $650K for CT brownfield cleanup

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $650,000 in brownfield cleanup money to remediate two sites in Bridgeport and New Haven.

The City of Bridgeport will receive $400,000 while REX Development of New Haven will receive $250,000 in grants to remediate contaminated sites in their cities.

The money given to REX and Bridgeport is part of $4.3 million that EPA awarded in New England and $13.2 million awarded nationally to return damaged properties back to a useful purpose.

EPA estimates there are 450,000 brownfields in the United States.
