An Ethiopian couple with a background in technology and cybersecurity has opened a new restaurant in downtown New Haven.
Habesha Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar, at 46 Whitney Ave., is owned and operated by Solomon Fiseha and Tigist Desalegn, who have years of experience in the international restaurant and hospitality industry in Ethiopia, Dubai and the U.S.
In the U.S., the couple first opened a now-shuttered Ethiopian restaurant in Middletown before eyeing the Elm City for their operations, which include Ethiopian fare and coffee.
Before getting into the restaurant business, Desalegn worked as a data security specialist and marketing. Fiseha is currently working as a clarity and database administrator at Yale University’s Department of Technology Services. He holds a master’s degree in cybersecurity, two additional master’s degrees in computer engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in business.
Habesha Restaurant & Bar is located at 46 Whitney Ave., part of Yale University Properties and the Shops at Yale, in the Chapel Street Historic and Broadway Districts in Downtown New Haven.
The location was formerly a salad restaurant.
