Fairfield only CT county to show population growth

The U.S. Census Bureau reported Thursday on where the heaviest population growth in Connecticut was concentrated last year.

The fastest-growing county in Connecticut between July 1, 2014, and July 1, 2015, was Fairfield County, whose population rose 0.2 percent over the period. Fairfield County was the only Connecticut county that experienced population growth. Fairfield County added 2,237 people over the period.

Fairfield County is the most populous county in Connecticut, with 948,053 residents, followed by Hartford County at 895,841, and New Haven County at 859,470. Hartford County’s population dropped 0.2 percent over the same period, while New Haven saw a decline of 0.3 percent.

The data is based on annual population estimates for each of the nation’s counties, county equivalents, metropolitan statistical areas, and micropolitan statistical areas since the 2010 Census and up to July 1, 2015.
