Farmington Bank will open the first of two new western Massachusetts branches on Tuesday in West Springfield.
The flagship of First Connecticut Bancorp announced last year its intent to widen its deposit-taking and lending operations north of the state border.
Nikki Gleason manages the 1,560-square-foot office. It is located at 85 Elm St., originally home to the West Springfield Trust Co. It was a Bank of America location until it closed in 2012.
Senior Vice President Michael Moriarity heads up the bank’s commercial services office, also housed at that location. Brian Risler runs the regional mortgage sales department based there.
In November, the bank’s second Massachusetts branch will open at 61 N. Main St., in East Longmeadow.
As part of its expansion into Western Massachusetts, Farmington Bank has hired former Major League Baseball star knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield is its new celebrity spokesperson.
Wakefield spent 17 years with the Boston Red Sox and is expected to appear at two new branches. He’ll be at the West Springfield branch on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and again on a date in November during the month-long Grand Opening celebration of the East Longmeadow branch, a company spokesman said.
