Farmington animal health biotech Bactana Corp. said it’s raised $1.3 million in convertible debt during its first-ever fundraising round.

Bactana, which develops microbes that increase the efficiency of raising food-producing animals like dairy and beef cattle, on Monday announced the closing of the investment round led by quasi-public Connecticut Innovations, Cornell University and several other funds and private investors.

The company said it will use the financing to expand its laboratory and facilities located at UConn Health’s Cell and Genome Sciences Building at 400 Farmington Ave.

Officials said the funds will also be used to trial its product, hire technical experts and develop commercial manufacturing capabilities before its product launch.
