FEMA extends CT’s storm-aid deadline to Feb. 12

Storm Sandy victims in Fairfield, New haven, Middlesex and New London counties who have yet to file federal damage claims have a bit more time to do so, authorities say.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the deadline to register for Sandy disaster assistance until Feb. 12. The original deadline was set for this Monday.

To date, over $37 million in federal disaster assistance has been approved to help Connecticut residents with disaster-related expenses, the governor’s office said Friday.

Residents in Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties, as well as businesses across the state who suffered damage from the October storm are encouraged to register with FEMA by either calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or visiting their website at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. For those with speech or hearing disabilities, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585.
