Financial services company debuts new CT headquarters

COSTAR Numisma's new headquarters at 1 Sound Shore Drive, in Greenwich.

Financial services company Numisma has opened its new Greenwich headquarters.

Gov. Ned Lamont and state Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez attended the ceremony Tuesday morning, hosted at 1 Sound Shore Drive, a 64,635-square-foot office building.

Numisma is a global distributor of U.S. banknotes. It was chartered in Connecticut under the state’s innovation banking charter, formerly known as the uninsured banking charter.

This allows the bank to operate and be regulated, despite not being insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The revival of the novel charter in Connecticut is aimed at attracting a cluster of fintech companies to the state.

Numisma has also achieved direct access to the Federal Reserve system, after it was awarded a master account earlier this year, the first bank in the nation regulated under a special purpose charter to do so.

“Fintech innovators realize that Connecticut offers a competitive landscape for their companies to grow and thrive in our state,” Gov. Lamont said in a statement. “This launch represents another step forward for Connecticut as a leader in financial services.”

“The decision to charter the bank in Connecticut was influenced by the state’s business-friendly climate and access to a deep talent pool,” said Vivek Tyagi, CEO and co-founder of Numisma Bank. “The Connecticut Department of Banking has been a key partner in supporting Numisma Bank’s vision. We ... are happy the department remains dedicated to offering comprehensive regulatory oversight while fostering an environment where innovative financial services can thrive.”
