A nearly 55-year-old, five-building retail and office complex on 12.2 acres in South Windsor recently sold for $2 million to a family with a portfolio of Hartford retail and apartment properties.
In a deed recorded July 31, the Kavita Ahmed Family Trust bought the Colony Shopping Complex at 942 Sullivan Ave., which hosts The Red Cabin Restaurant and Giuseppina's Italian Bakery, among others.
The buying trust is tied to the Andaleeb family, which owns a portfolio of several retail and mixed-use apartment buildings in Hartford, largely centered around Albany Avenue.
The South Windsor property includes five buildings completed between 1969 and 1970, including:
Leading his family's development efforts, Amber "Ace" Andaleeb said the South Windsor property, which is about 70% occupied, is a great opportunity to add value. Andaleeb said he is planning a "facelift" and modernization of the plaza. He is also contemplating construction of additional buildings.
Andaleeb said he doesn't have specific plans yet, and the new buildings could be retail, office or mixed-use with residential components.
