Farmington-based veterinary biotech company Torigen Pharmaceuticals Inc. has signed a distribution deal with California-based Victor Medical Company, months after a $3.5 million fundraising haul.

Under the deal, Victor Medical will distribute educational materials to veterinarians about Torigen's VetiVax product, a cancer vaccine for dogs, which is currently in the testing stage. Victor Medical will also put on webinars and other events for veterinarians and others in the veterinary field.

VetiVax is unlicensed, and regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an experimental product of unproven efficacy.

The move comes during a growth period for the company, CEO Ashley Kalinauskas said. After closing on $3.5 million in fundraising in January, the company hired a chief medical officer, expanded its market development team and is looking to hire an additional oncologist. The company currently employs 22 people.

"We're rapidly expanding," Kalinauskas said.

Additionally, Torigen is looking to move out of its space at UConn TIP, Kalinauskas said, and is currently looking at lab and manufacturing space in Farmington.

Later this summer, Torigen will embark on a series-A fundraising round, and additional clinical trials, Kalinauskas said.
