A former cannabis industry executive has taken a state job overseeing investigations and enforcement of Connecticut’s new adult-use market.
Jennifer Mandzuk, the former CEO of Watertown-based cannabis cultivator Theraplant, is the new state cannabis program manager at the state Department of Consumer Protection. The role, which Mandzuk began in June, is a supervisory position that reports to Drug Control Division Director Rodrick Marriott, according to a spokesperson.
Mandzuk’s projected annual salary is $96,287, according to payroll information from the state. She was not immediately available for an interview.
In her new role, Mandzuk will oversee general management of staff within the DCP’s Drug Control Division related to cannabis investigations and enforcement. The DCP said it’s typical for the agency to hire from industries it oversees.
“Regulatory agencies often hire subject-matter experts from the industries they regulate to ensure high-quality, experienced staff,” said DCP spokesperson Kaitlyn Krasselt. “Jennifer has been a great addition to the Drug Control team, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge of the industry, and we are happy to have her on board.”
Mandzuk joined the state agency following about eight years at Theraplant — from 2015 to 2023 — according to her public resume on LinkedIn. She left the company in January, according to her resume.
Theraplant and its holding company faced financial challenges in recent years.
Greenrose Holding Co., the New York-based former parent company of Theraplant, submitted a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in July stating it completed the foreclosure of its assets.
Following the foreclosure, ownership of Theraplant was transferred to NewCo, a company set up by Greenrose’s lenders, Delaware-based DXR Finance HoldCo.
