Pete Gioia, the former longtime economist of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, has died, according to CBIA President and CEO Chris DiPentima.
“Saddened by the news that Pete Gioia, who was CBIA's economist for three decades until his retirement in 2018, passed away this week,” DiPentima wrote in a message posted to LinkedIn.
A graduate of Hobart College, with a master's degree from UConn, Gioia was a senior consultant with KPMG, a researcher for The Futures Group and Criminal Justice Education Center, and a budget analyst for the Connecticut General Assembly’s Office of Fiscal Analysis before joining CBIA, DiPentima said.
He was also an advisor to former GOP Gov. M. Jodi Rell.
After he retired from the CBIA in 2018, Gioia wrote occasional opinion pieces for the Hartford Business Journal. His last piece, “Despite headwinds, U.S. and CT economies in good shape heading into 2022,” published in January 2022.
