Former West Haven industrial scrap metal recycling property sold

Contributed 149 Front Ave., West Haven.

A former West Haven scrap metal recycling facility with several industrial buildings has been sold to an affiliate of a New Haven-based contractor.

The parcels at 149-155, 167-173 Front Ave., were sold by Industrial Recycling to Ledyard Street Properties for $2 million in a deal recorded in early September, according to city land records.

Industrial recycling was a scrap metal recycling company that dates back more than 40 years but is now listed as permanently closed, and company officials could not be reached for comment.

Ledyard Street Properties is a New Haven-based company controlled by Jeffrey E. Laydon, according to state business records.

Laydon is head of Laydon Industries of New Haven, a third-generation general contractor operating in the heavy civil fields with a focus on underground utility infrastructure, according to the company website. He could not be reached for comment.

Two main buildings on the West Haven property include a 10,800-square-foot, two-story light industrial property at 149 Front Ave., that dates back to 1940, and a 7,700-square-foot building at 155 Front Ave., that was built in 1935.

Plans for the property are not known.
