Founder of Manchester medical products maker back at helm of company

Tom Drury, principal founder of a Manchester-based Hydrofera LLC, which makes polyvinyl alcohol foam products for medical applications, and a group of investors have acquired Hydrofera from Hollister Inc., Hydrofera announced Wednesday.

The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Drury originally brought Hydrofera Blue wound care products to market and helped introduce the products to Hollister, which bought Hydrofera in 2012, after which Drury remained as chief operating officer until retiring in July 2016.

Hollister expanded Hydrofera Blue’s reach and provided a platform for continued growth and success of the brand, said Drury, who returns to Hydrofera as CEO.

"I am extremely excited to be back at the helm and look forward to continuing the success and innovation that is synonymous with Hydrofera Blue,” he said. “Our pledge is to provide our patients with products to improve outcomes, and provide our customers and distributors with the dedication and service they deserve."

Libertyville, Ill.-based Hollister – which develops, makes and markets healthcare products – announced earlier this month it was divesting part of its wound care business, including Hydrofera and Endoform, saying new owners would continue to make and deliver the products.

Hollister will continue to provide customers with wound care products, including Hydrofera Blue, until Hydrofera LLC begins distribution, Hydrofera said. Hollister will continue to sell and distribute other wound care products in its portfolio, including TRIACT, and FastCast, among others.
