Hartford-based television news station Fox61 has expanded its presence in the region with a news bureau on the University of New Haven campus in West Haven.
Fox61 said the bureau will provide the station with easy access to the I-95 corridor, Southern Connecticut and the Shoreline, reinforcing its commitment to statewide coverage.
University officials, meanwhile, said the partnership will offer students in the university's growing media studies department a front-row seat to the day-to-day process of gathering, editing and broadcasting the news.
“The more exposure our students have to the real world of 24-7 news, the better their preparation for jobs after graduation will be,” said Thomas Garrett, head of the Communications, Film and Media Studies Department.
He said the partnership will offer advantages not only to journalism students, but to students with majors relying on communications, such as political science, music, entrepreneurship and business.
Reporter Tony Terzi and the Fox61 news team will report daily from the bureau, according to the station. Fox61 and WTIC-TV is owned by Tribune Media.
