A frozen food delivery service will cease operating in Connecticut, closing its North Windham facility and laying off five employees, according to a filing with the state Department of Labor.
Cygnus Home Service LLC, doing business as Yelloh, said it will close its location at 10 Commerce Drive on Dec. 15.
The closure is part of a market consolidation by the Bloomington, Minnesota-based company. In total, 750 employees in sales, field and corporate positions will be cut, according to an announcement from Yelloh.
A total of 90 Yelloh service centers will close.
In Connecticut, five employees will lose their jobs, including four route sales representatives and a senior material handler.
None of the positions are part of a union. The employees will be paid through Dec. 26 and remain on the company’s benefits plan for 120 days, according to the filing.
Yelloh said in the announcement that, starting in December, it will focus on 18 states: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
“This is a heartbreaking decision for our company, because we cherish our customers, our employees and the special role our team members play in our local communities,” the announcement says. “Concentrating our high-touch delivery service in fewer locations – in states that are the foundation for our 70-year-old company – is the best path forward for Yelloh.”
Customers across the United States can continue ordering products from Yelloh using its app and website.
