FuelCell sells 8.4MW order to S. Korean partner

HBJ Photo / Brad Kane Chip Bottone, CEO of FuelCell Energy Inc. in Danbury, told the crowd at the Fuel Cell Seminar in Uncasville that it's time for the industry to turn its attention to profitability.

Danbury clean energy systems manufacturer FuelCell Energy on Tuesday announced its latest sale to its South Korean partner POSCO Energy, a purchase of six fuel cells totaling 8.4 megawatts.

The order comes on top of the multi-year 122 megawatt order POSCO has placed with FuelCell to meet the Asian country’s growing demand for localized, distributed generation. Thirteen South Korean cities now have their own fuel cell parks, generating a combined 59 megawatts of emissions-free electricity.

Financial terms of the 8.4 megawatt order were not disclosed.

FuelCell also announced its fuel cell component manufacturing facility in Pohang, South Korea is completed and is being outfitted with production equipment so it can start manufacturing by the middle of next year.

The Korean facility will increase FuelCell’s global integrated supply chain along with its production complexes in Torrington and Ottobrunn, Germany.
