Gale drops out of Hartford mayoral race, endorses Bronin

HBJ PHOTO | Matt Pilon John Gale has opted to drop out of the city's crowded mayoral race and pursue a seat on the city council.

Hartford attorney John Q. Gale said Thursday that he is bowing out of the city’s mayoral race, opting to instead run for a city council seat.

With two months to go until a primary election pares the candidate field, Gale said he is endorsing fellow Democrat and attorney Luke Bronin, who was previously general counsel to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

“After spending many hours with him at debates and forums all over the city, and hearing him on the campaign trail, I can tell that Luke Bronin and I share a vision for Hartford’s future that will make our whole city stronger and more prosperous in the years to come,” Gale said in a statement.

Since late 2014, Gale’s campaign raised more than $127,000.

He reported having more than $84,000 on hand at the recent conclusion of the second quarter.

Bronin’s competitors include incumbent Pedro Segarra, Theodore Cannon, Joel Cruz Jr., Giselle Jacobs, and Robert Killian Jr.
