The Galleria Design Center will unveil its $405,000 SunPort lighting system on Feb. 20 and announce the construction of its Green Technology Center to show off Connecticut's green products for homes and businesses.
The Galleria installed 89 SunPorts in its manufacturing warehouse. The lighting system look somewhat like skylights and reflect sunlight into the interior structures of the building. The technology also includes special sensors that gradually increase the electric lighting and sunlight diminishes throughout the day, in order to maintain the same level of illumination inside the building.
The SunPorts will save the Galleria 70 percent off its annual lighting bill, and the $405,000 investment will be paid off by those savings in just over 3.5 years.
While dedicating the SunPorts inside its manufacturing center, the Galleria will announce its new 2,500-square-foot Green Technology Center. Much like the Galleria showcases various home fixtures, decors, and technologies, the Green Technology Center will feature up to 10 technologies such as geothermal, solar thermal, solar electric, control systems, and efficient lighting to demystify the green technology for businesses and homes.
The Green Technology Center is expected to open by July.
