A new tapas restaurant and bar is opening at the former Blind Pig Pizza Co. in Hartford's Front Street district near UConn's satelite campus.

The Triple Three at 89 Arch St. debuted on Thursday.

Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, restaurant owner Jeff Valdiviezo and the Hartford Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Previously, a cannabis retail shop was proposed at the location. After scuttling the idea, the Capital Region Development Authority purchased the 2,500-square-foot building.

The CRDA board, in October 2023, agreed to buy the former Blind Pig Pizza Co. space for $650,000.

Valdiviezo previously told the Hartford Business Journal that he planned to spend about $90,000 fitting out the space for a relaxed-atmosphere bar with an array of Peruvian food and some Mexican favorites, including tacos.

Valdiviezo said he wants to create unique and fun spaces, as well as drink and food presentations that lend themselves to social media posts.

“Something chill, something with great food,” Valdiviezo said. “I want a restaurant with a nice vibe.”
