The family behind a longtime Hamden clothing business, Valentino Tailors, has purchased a larger space in New Haven.
For a combined price of $560,000, the family bought two ground floor commercial spaces at Urbane Building Condominium, at 817 Grand Ave.
One of the units is a 2,470-square-foot retail space, while the second unit is 4,537 square feet of office spaces.
Press|Cuozzo Commercial Services in Hamden handled the off-market transaction.
Stephen Press represented the seller Jefferson Grand LLC. Tony Poccia, also of Press|Cuozzo, represented the buyers, 817 Grand 101 LLC and 817 Grand 102 LLC, whose principal is listed as Vincent “Enzo” Anthony Valentino.
The principal’s family’s business, Valentino Tailors, will occupy the retail unit.
Valentino said Press|Cuozzo found the location based on what they were looking for, even though it wasn’t for sale at the time.
“After nearly 52 years in Hamden, we are excited for the opportunity to continue serving our customers in a bigger and more centrally-located (space),” Valentino said. “We see New Haven as a growing and thriving economy, and the space couldn’t be better if we had built it ourselves.”
Valentino Tailors offers clothing alterations, tuxedo and suit rentals, retail and made-to-measure services.
It is currently still operating out of its Hamden location, on Dixwell Avenue, but will close the Hamden store once it moves to New Haven. The business expects to move to New Haven sometime this summer, after the current tenants relocate, according to Valentino.
