Hartford accelerator names inaugural cohort of digital health startups

Hartford’s newest accelerator is set for its official launch next month, having selected 10 startups Wednesday evening.

Nine of the 10 that will join the three-month-long Digital Health CT program hail from across the U.S., including two based locally in Farmington, while one is from Israel.

They range in size, from two employees to 10-plus, as well as their product niches. Most are already generating revenue.
In Hartford, they will work to develop and pilot their technologies.

Hartford HealthCare played a leading role, with several other local partners, in launching the accelerator, which is operated by London-based Startupbootcamp.

Dr. Barry Stein, chief of clinical innovation at HHC, said Thursday that the program received more than 300 applications. Program partners ultimately whittled the field down to 20, and selected half of those on Wednesday.

“These are world class companies and some of them have already been through the world’s best accelerators,” Stein said. “I feel like we’re going to be very strong and these companies are going to have an impact on patient care, which is ultimately the goal.”

The 10 companies selected, and their home office locations, include:

  • CompanionMx, Massachusetts
  • Ellipsis, California
  • Clearstep, Illinois
  • Encapsulate, Connecticut
  • MDI Health, Israel
  • QR Fertile, Connecticut
  • BrainCheck, Texas
  • Lineus Medical, Arkansas
  • DeepScribe, California
  • Aiva, California

I have made inquiries with UConn as to why Trinity's students were excluded from this accelerator program. (UConn is running the 'Innovation Places Hartford' program).
