Hartford accessibility equipment company acquires Tolland firm

Hartford accessibility equipment company Lifeway Mobility has acquired Tolland’s Sugar Hill Building & Design, which designs and builds home modifications for people with limited mobility.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lifeway Mobility operates in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, providing accessibility and safety options for people with temporary or permanent mobility limitations, including ramps, stair lifts, and bath safety solutions.

Lifeway has about 30 employees, and is adding three employees plus subcontractor relationships from Sugar Hill, said Paul Bergantino, Lifeway president and CEO.

Sugar Hill will operate as Lifeway Mobility, with Sugar Hill owner Amy Finke joining the parent company as vice president of business development for both Lifeway Mobility and Freedom Lifts. Freedom Lifts is a Lifeway company that provides stair lifts throughout southern New England, and elevators, dumbwaiters and wheelchair lifts in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Finke is certified as both an aging in place specialist and and an environmental access consultant who works with caregivers, healthcare professionals and family members to provide measures that increase home safety.
