As colleges and universities in Greater Hartford finish out their fall semesters, schools are announcing plans for spring semester schedules that are slightly different from pre-pandemic years.

The University of Connecticut will resume courses for spring semester on Jan. 19, UConn Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Carl Lejuez said. That's in line with when they'd normally begin, but residential students will need to arrive two weeks ahead of time to quarantine in case of possible COVID-19 exposure.

UConn also moved its spring break to the week of April 11, later than previously planned, Lejuez said.

The University of Hartford will start its spring semester Feb. 1, according to an announcement posted on UHart's website.

"Changes to the spring academic calendar will allow for a longer break, as well as the change to get through the worst of the winter flu season and reduce the number of campus openings and reopenings," the UHart announcement said.

Residential students at UHart will be required to show documentation of a negative COVID-19 test in order to return to campus.

Trinity College in Hartford won't resume in-person classes until March 1, according to a Trinity spokesperson. The school hasn't yet announced move-in plans for residential students, but spring courses are scheduled to end May 7, with final exams ending May 17.

The spring semester schedule at schools under the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities umbrella (which includes Central Connecticut State University in New Britain and all community colleges) won't change much from non-pandemic times. CSCU is currently scheduled to begin spring semester courses on Jan. 26, hold its spring break in mid-March and complete courses by May 9 and finals by May 16.
