Hartford-based parking empire LAZ Parking is getting bigger, after winning a five-year contract to manage parking services at Denver International Airport.

LAZ will manage the airport’s 50,000 parking spaces, including two garages and seven surface lots, in partnership with Denver-based Nationwide Parking Services.

Denver International Airport is the largest airport parking operation in North America in terms of its revenue and number of parking spaces, according to an announcement about the deal.

"Being selected to manage an airport parking operation of this size and scope is an acknowledgement of our reputation in the parking industry and the hard work members of our LAZ team, at all levels, do every day," said Alan Lazowski, chairman, CEO and founder of LAZ Parking.

Lazowski is a prominent figure in the Hartford business community and has become heavily involved in local real estate. He owns the Gold Building with Shelbourne Global Solutions LLC and has partnered with the late Martin Kenny on projects, including redevelopment of the Pratt Street corridor.

LAZ will oversee 24/7 parking operations at Denver International Airport, including revenue collection and reporting, traffic control and courtesy emergency vehicle services, such as jumpstarts, lockouts and air for tires, according to the announcement. The agreement has two, one-year renewal options.

Nationwide Parking Services, which manages surface lots in Denver and other parts of Colorado, has partnered with LAZ on other ventures. It also provides services at Los Angeles International Airport, Oakland International Airport, John Glenn Columbus International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport and Dallas Love Field.

Denver International Airport, which opened in 1995, is one of the busiest airports in the world. In 2022, over 69 million passengers traveled through it. The airport’s footprint spans 53 square miles.

LAZ, the largest privately owned parking operator in the United States, has been in business since 1981. It controls more than 1.4 million parking spaces in more than 42 states.
