Hartford Chamber launches new business discount program aimed at drawing more college students to city

As the city of Hartford tries to position itself as more of a college town, the Hartford Chamber of Commerce is launching a new program aimed at drawing more college students to the city.

The chamber on Wednesday launched its "College Kickbacks" program, which will provide Connecticut college students discounts at participating Hartford businesses.

The program is being launched in partnership with the city of Hartford.

By showing a student ID at any participating business in Hartford, students enrolled in a Connecticut college can get a variety of discounts, according to the chamber.

The program’s website shows a range of entertainment, fitness, professional services, restaurant and retail businesses that are already participating.

“The College Kickbacks program is a fantastic example of how we can create mutual benefits for both students and local businesses,” said Julio Concepción, executive director of the Hartford Chamber of Commerce. “We’re excited to see the positive outcomes this initiative will bring to our city.”

The new program is being launched as the city tries to attract more college students downtown.

Both UConn and the University of St. Joseph are involved in projects that will add student housing in the city center.

The Hartford Chamber of Commerce is encouraging more Hartford businesses to participate in the program. Interested businesses can sign up through the chamber’s website, or contact the Chamber directly for more information.
