Hartford HealthCare, Aware Recovery partnership aims to expand access to addiction treatment

Contributed Dr. Brian Holzer, left, CEO of Aware Recovery Care, shakes hands with James F. O'Dea, Ph.D., senior vice president of Hartford HealthCare's Behavioral Health Network after signing the agreement to collaborate on addiction services.

Hartford HealthCare said Tuesday it has signed a long-term agreement with a Wallingford-based mental health and substance abuse provider.

The partnership between Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network and Aware Recovery Care aims to broaden access to drug and alcohol addiction treatment in the state, the companies said.

Their primary offerings include Aware’s in-home addiction treatment and virtual detox and medication assisted treatment services, and Hartford HealthCare’s statewide Behavioral Health Network, as well as its newly opened residential care facility, The Ridge Recovery Center in Willimantic.

In addition, Hartford HealthCare’s Dr. Jonathan Craig Allen, vice president of addiction services for the Hartford HealthCare Behavioral Health Network, will take on an additional role as medical director of the collaboration.

In addition to Connecticut, where it was founded, Aware Recovery now operates in 11 states, including Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island and Virginia.
