Hartford Land Bank begins search for Arulampalam’s successor

MARK PAZNIOKAS / CTMIRROR.ORG Arunan Arulampalam celebrates his election as mayor of Hartford.

With its current leader leaving in January to become the mayor of Connecticut’s capital city, Hartford Land Bank said it has officially launched a nationwide search for a new executive director, the nonprofit organization announced.

Arunan Arulampalam, who recently was elected mayor of Hartford, is set to step down as executive director of Hartford Land Bank Inc. in January, when he’s sworn into city government. Arulampalam, a Democrat, won Hartford's Nov. 7 mayoral race with about 69% of the vote, and is set to succeed two-term Democratic Mayor Luke Bronin, who did not run for reelection.

Arulampalam first joined Hartford Land Bank in July 2021. The nonprofit acquires vacant, abandoned, tax-delinquent and distressed properties in the city and invests in their rehabilitation.

The executive director job description and application criteria can be found online. The land banks search committee will begin reviewing applications on Dec. 22, the organization said.
