A Manchester-based nursing home operator say it’s acquired Park Place Health Center in Hartford out of state receivership for more than $3 million.
iCare Health Network, which specializes in operations, financial management, business planning and marketing, among other areas, on Monday said it acquired the Hartford nursing home at 5 Greenwood St., and began operating the 150-bed facility last week as Parkville Care Center.
The acquisition costs will cover court required improvements and other obligations, according to David Skoczulek, iCare’s vice president of business development.
More than 150 current employees were offered jobs following the ownership transition and 129 employees have already been rehired, Skoczulek said.
“I believe there are more to be on-boarded and some are per diem, which is why this number is lower,” he said of other impending hires.
Operations at Parkville Care Center will be overseen by George Kingston, who is currently the administrator at iCare’s sister facility, the Trinity Hill Care Center at 151 Hillside Ave. in Hartford. Mike Landi, iCare's chief operating officer, will oversee Parkville Care Center on an interim basis until Kingston takes over permanently in the weeks ahead, Skoczulek said.
The Hartford facility, formerly known as the Greenwood Health Center, was set on fire in Feb. 2003 by a then 23-year-old who suffered from a variety of mental health issues, according to the Hartford Courant. The blaze killed 16 patients and wounded several others.
After the fire, the site was renovated and renamed as Park Place Health Center.
Founded in 2001, iCare now operates 11 nursing homes and employs 1,700 workers in Connecticut. Locations include: Touchpoints at Bloomfield; Touchpoints at Farmington; Chelsea Place Care Center in Hartford; Westside Care Center in Manchester; and Silver Springs Care Center in Meriden. All of its properties, which provide short-term and long-term care, were acquired out out state receivership, Skoczulek said.
Skoczulek says iCare manages three of Hartford’s four nursing homes.
